Family activities for families with toddlers
Doing activities as a family together brings everyone closer to each other and makes happy (childhood) memories.
But coming up with new and fun activities to do, can be hard when you have a toddler.
A toddler can’t do everything and most of them are exhausted quickly.
I’m going to give you some ideas of what you can do with the whole family, activities your toddler can and will love to do as well. But first I’m going to tell you why I think it’s important to do activities as a family together.
Also, after a fun family activity, your toddler will probably sleep good and that gives you some time for each other or yourself.
A family activity doesn’t need to take the whole day, your toddler will probably be tired fast from all the new impressions. If an activity is only taking an hour or two, then that’s fine. It’s also worth it, seeing the smile on their faces is amazing.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind driving an hour even if we would only stay there for 2 hours.
A lot of activities on this list are really cheap or even free, so that even when you have a tight budget, you can still do some fun activities with your family.
Walking on a nature trail is free and gives your family time to talk with each other. There’s also lots to discover for your toddler, and you can do a nature hunt together.
Go to the lake
The lake is another place where your toddler can discover new things, let her throw a rock in the water and watch the water move. When the water is good and there’s a little beach at the lake, you can even go in the water with her.
Visit a (new) playground
Toddlers love playgrounds, especially when there are other children. But even if there are no other children, you don’t have to be bored there.
A new playground is even more fun to go to, a new slide and a new swing, maybe some new children to play with.
There’s a lot you can do in the park, and I think that everyone has a park near them.
Amusement park for toddlers
Maybe it’s not everywhere, but if you have one near you, you should take your toddler.
Amusement parks for toddlers are great, usually they’re also cheaper and have a lot of rides your toddler can go in.
You can do a nature hunt almost everywhere, the forest, the beach, your backyard.
When you make themed lists, you can do it more often without it getting boring. Some ideas of themed lists are leaves, flowers, bugs, sea shells.
You can make gardening into a family activity, and you don’t even have to leave your home.
Make some sandwiches, pack some snack and some lemonade and you’re good to go (don’t forget the blanket).
A picnic is fun for the whole family and you get some time to talk with each other.
You can go picnic in the park, at the lake or stay close to home and picnic in the backyard. The important thing is that you take the time so sit and enjoy together.
Go to a fair
Music, colors, lights, everything a toddler loves in one place.
Get some ice cream
Getting ice cream together is a simple activity and you probably don’t have to go far away for it, sit on the terrace and play ‘I spy’ together.
No, I don’t mean that you should pack up and go to a camping or head into the wild. I mean go camping in the backyard, because even in the backyard it can be a lot of fun.
Do what you usually would do while camping, campfire, marshmallows and stories, your toddler will love it. And if she decides in the middle of the night that camping isn’t for her anyways, you can just put her to bed and deal with cleaning up in the morning.
Go pet some bunnies and goats at the petting zoo near you,it’s a fun learning moment for everyone.
Don’t forget to take some wipes with you so you can clean your toddlers hands after touching the animals.
So many colors and it smells amazing, I love going to markets with my girl. We can both taste stuff we never had before, if your toddler is a picky eater, this might even get her to try something new.
You can go swimming at the lake or beach, or put up a swimming pool in the backyard.
When the weather is bad, you can also go to an indoor swimming pool, so you can go swimming any time a year.

Looking at all the wild animal and learning about how they live, fun and educational for the whole family.
Family photo shoot
A family photo shoot can be a lot of fun, choose a fun outdoor location to do your shoot. After a few weeks you get the photo’s in the mail, and looking through them is also a lot of fun.
On the bike you can see a lot more then when you’re in the car, have a family ride with the whole family.
Ask your toddler if she wants to go right or left, so she can lead the way for a while, you might even discover places you didn’t know about.
These 17 family activities are great, and will keep you busy this summer.
You can of course also combine activities to make the list even bigger, for example, go on a bike ride and have a picnic somewhere on the way.
