I’ve never planned my year or set any actual goals, so why start now you ask? Well, it’s because time seems to go by so fast and I don’t get as much out of life as I would want.
I’m not planning to let that happen to the coming year, this time I want to set goals, work on them and achieve them. But where do I start and how do I make a planning for the whole year?
I’ve spend some time (too much maybe) to look around and read about the experiences from people who’ve planned their year before, I wanted all the tips I could find before starting my planning. With what I’ve learned I made a year planning for 2019, this is you make one too.
When planning your year you first need to know what goals you have for that year, so grab a pen and paper and start brainstorming. Write down what you want to change and where you want to spend more of your time, use this to come up with some goals. Your goals can be about anything, maybe you want to work on your career or spend more time with your family.
Your goals for the year
Before you can start planning your year, you need to know what your goals are. Grab a pen and paper and write down what you want for the coming year, maybe you want to spend more time with your family, work on your career or finish a course.
Take a look at what you wrote down and prioritize your goals, choose 2-3 big goals because else it can quickly become overwhelming.
Turn your goals into a plan
To reach your goals you’ll need to know how to get there. Break your big goals into smaller steps and write down how long you think you’ll need to accomplish them.
Use the steps as goals for your monthly planning, this will help you to divide your time evenly and accomplish them. If your goal is to do a course this year you need to know when to learn certain chapters, that way you can learn evenly over the year.
Your weekly goals
Now that you have your plan in big lines in front of you it’s time to make your weekly to-do lists. You don’t need to make these for the the whole year now but I’m going to make them every other month, that way I can look a bit forward.
Take your monthly goals, break these up and divide them over your weeks. If your goal is to read at least 12 books this year then your weekly to do might be to read 10 chapters of the book you’re reading at that time.
Don’t forget to make a daily to-do list for yourself, that way you can spread out your tasks evenly and don’t forget what you still need to do. Write your daily to-do lists every week, write down what you need to do on what day, you can add your smaller to-do’s as well.
I don’t only have my goals worked out in my planning, I also have all the birthdays, holidays and appointments written down. With this planning I should be able to get it all done next year, I only need to do my tasks and work hard for it.
